Slovakia will issue a postage stamp celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Slovak Republic.

The postage stamp depicts a panorama of Bratislava, the capital of the Slovak Republic, hemmed with a tricolour ribbon. The stamp coupon based on a silhouette of the St. Elizabeth’s Cathedral represents Košice – the European Capital of Culture 2013, hemmed with a ribbon in city colours.

Germany Jointly Issues Postage Stamp with France Celebrating 50th Anniversary of the Élysée Treaty

First Day of Issue: January 2, 2013 - Germany

Germany will jointly issue a postage stamp with France celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Élysée Treaty.

The focus of the treaty was on Franco-German cooperation. The groundbreaking agreement was signed  at the Élysée Palace in Paris on January 22, 1963 by French President Charles de Gaulle and German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer.

2013 World Ski Championship Stamps Feature Artwork by Reknowned Austrian Artist

Although small in an international context, Norwegian fashion design does have some names that have attracted attention over the past forty years. 150th Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation Celebrated on Postage Stamp

First Day of Issue: January 1, 2013 - United States

The United States will issue a new postage stamp honoring the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, which President Abraham Lincoln signed on January 1, 1863.

Lincoln's proclamation, issued nearly two years into the Civil War, declared that all slaves in the rebel states of the Confederacy “are, and henceforward shall be free.”

In addition, the document authorized the recruitment of black soldiers into the Union army. Their courage in battle and contributions to the Union's ultimate victory greatly influenced the nation to adopt the 13th Amendment to the Constitution in 1865, outlawing slavery forever.

The 8th decade of the 20th century produced a blueprint for what terrorism was to become. In the name of “a cause to defend”, terrorists hijacked planes, took hostages and detonated bombs.

South Korea Releases New Years Postage Stamps

2013 is the Year of the Snake and Korea Post has issued two new "New Year's Greetings" postage stamps to celebrate the New Year.

The first of the new postage stamps is the final entry in a series of 12 stamps featuring animals representing each year of the Chinese zodiac.  The series began in 2001 featuring the Year of the Horse.

China Issues Confucius Institute Postage Stamps

China Post has issued a pair of postage stamps honoring Confucius Institute. Confucius Institutes are non-profit public institutions aligned with government of China to promote the Chinese language and culture.

The first institutes opened in 2004 in Uzbekistan and South Korea. Since then dozens have opened in countries around the world.

Images of Illegal Michael Jackson Stamp Sheets

The Universal Postal Union has sent out a warning in 2012 about illegal Michael Jackson miniature sheets of postage stamps in open circulation. The illegal sheets claim to be legitimate miniature stamp sheets from the country of Mauritius.

Mauritius has not issued such Michael Jackson miniature stamp sheets nor does it have plans to do so.

These fake sheets also differ from legitimate Mauritius sheets by the lack of perforations, a wrong wording format for Mauritius, and a wrong currency code.

2012 Canadian Christmas Postage Stamps

Canada has released new Christmas stamps for the 2012 holiday season.

The first stamp features a religious theme of Madonna with child in stained glass. This stamp depicts one of the more than 150-year-old stained glass windows at St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Concept Cathedral in Kingston, Ontario.
