Bunschoten-Spakenburg Honored on Stamp

First Day of Issue: January 28, 2013 - Netherlands

The Netherlands has issued a new postage stamp honoring the village of Bunschoten-Spakenburg as part of their Beautiful Netherlands series.

Bunschoten is a Dutch village that traces its roots back to the 13th century. Spakenburg was a nearby town that due to the rapid growth of both towns in the 20th century, merged with Bunschoten to become one village.

Until 2011, the “Beautiful Netherlands” series was dedicated to cities. For 2012 and 2013 PostNL has opted for a new coherent thematic approach and has chosen historic country houses and regional dress respectively.

The stamp features a small bonnet called an "ongermuts" that is worn on the back of the head by women of this town.
