Armenia Postage Stamp Celebrates St. Sargis Day

First Day of Issue: January 29, 2013 - Armenia

Armenia has issued a new postage stamp celebrating Saint Sargis Day.

St. Sargis is the patron saint of young love. Unmarried Armenian women eat a piece of salty bread, ideally after fasting all day, in the hope of dreaming about their future husband. According to tradition, the man who brings them water in their dream will be the man they marry.

The stamp depicts Saint Sargis pictured on the miniature of “St. Sargis” of Van school gospel dated 14th century.
