Faroese Rowing Boat Theme of Postage Stamps

First Day of Issue: February 25, 2013 - Faroe Islands

The Faroe Islands has issued set of nine postage stamps featuring the traditional Faroese rowing boat.

The traditional Faroese rowing boat is a clinker-built boat. Clinker building is the old Nordic method of building boats with overlapping wooden planks.

Using this construction, Norsemen built their boats over one thousand years ago, and with them the Vikings sailed and left their mark on settled as well as yet unexplored lands in the North Atlantic.
