Referendum Theme of Falkland Islands Stamps

First Day of Issue: February 15, 2013 - Falkland Islands

The Falkland Islands have issued a set of four new postage stamps and one souvenir sheet with the theme Referendum 2013.

The Falkland Islands are one of 14 Overseas Territories (OTs) of the United Kingdom (UK). The government announced its intention to hold a referendum, in order to enable Falkland Islanders to express their view on the political status of the Falkland Islands. The question is as follows:

Do you wish the Falkland Islands to retain their current political status as an Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom?  YES or NO

Each stamp is printed in a different colour and shows an image of a hand (two stamps feature male and two female hands) inserting a vote into a ballot box which carries a design showing the islands.

The souvenir sheet consists of the same design but also shows the actual question in the border together with the statement ‘A peoples’ right of self-determination is a fundamental modern democratic right’.
