Russian Stamp Honors WWII Soviet Flying Ace

Russia has issued a new postage stamp celebrating the 100th birthday of Alexander Ivanovich Pokryshkin, a WWII Soviet flying ace.

During World War II, Pokryshkin was the commander of the 16th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment and the 9th Guards Fighter Air Division. He developed new tactics for air patrols and by May 1944 the flying ace had personally shot down 50 German aircraft.
