Russian Stamp Honors 350th Anniversary of Penza

First Day of Issue: February 8, 2013 - Russia

Russia has issued a new postage stamp honoring the 350th anniversary of the founding of Penza as a fortress city.

Penza began as a frontier outpost with a wooden stockade, but in 1663 it was rebuilt into a fortress city under the rule of Tsar Aleksey Michailovich.

The postage stamp depicts a sculpture of the “First settler” and the Penza coat of arms.
