Way of St. James Theme of French Stamps

First Day of Issue: February 25, 2013 - France

France has issued a miniature sheet with four stamps featuring The Way of St. James (French: Chemins de St. Jacques de Compostelle).

The Way of St. James is the pilgrimage route to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in northwestern Spain, where tradition has it that the remains of the apostle Saint James are buried.

Today thousands of Christian pilgrims set out each year to make their way to Santiago de Compostela. Most travel by foot, some by bicycle, and a few travel as some of their medieval counterparts did, on horseback or by donkey.
